I. “In fashioning myself I fashion man.”
-Jean Paul Sartre, Existentialism is a Humanism

II. “There is no real way to deal with everything we lose.”
– Joan Didion, Where I Was From

III. There are characters both fictional and real that haunt me. I consider them ghosts because their presence still affects my everyday life though they themselves play no part in it. Culled from personal relationships and popular American culture my ghosts help define me as a person in the world. Their relentlessness serves as a reminder that no one can ever fully shake their past or their imperfections. Like our vices, we can only try to find a way to wrangle them.
